Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Instrumentation and Controls (EI&C) Engineer to join our talented and growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing electrical and control systems that support the efficient and reliable operation of water treatment plants.
This role involves instrumentation selection, control system design, PLC/SCADA programming, fault-finding, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The EI&C Engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers and engineers, process, commissioning and startup reps as well as site operators and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical & Control Systems Engineering:
- Provides electrical and controls support to sales and marketing through specification reviews, cost estimates, sales drawings and calculations.
- Design, develop, and implement electrical and control systems for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Review all applicable job data, including plans and specifications, to determine project requirements ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Specify, configure, and integrate Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI).
- Develop and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, layouts, detailed drawings, calculations, specifications etc..
- Ensure all control and electrical systems comply with industry standards (CEC, NEC, IEC, UL508A).
- Conduct electrical load calculations, fault analysis, and risk assessments.
- Experience with PLC development environments such as: RSLogix5000, RSLogix500, Connected Components Workbench, Unity Pro, Simatic Step7, TIA Portal, Factory Talk View Studio, Red Lion Crimson 3.0, WinCC
- Conduct Software Acceptance Testing (SAT's) prior to deployment of software to the field to ensure high quality is being achieved.
- Coaching, mentoring and training commissioning and startup staff on electrical and controls related principles to ensure self sufficiency.
Instrumentation & Automation:
- Configure and calibrate instrumentation to ensure accurate data collection and process control.
- Develop and optimize PID control loops and automation logic to improve system efficiency.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation faults and ensure robust signal integration with control systems.
Field Level Requirements:
- Assist commissioning and startup staff in conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT's) of systems to ensure functionality of system prior to mobilization.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT's) for all control panels including all IO testing, HMI and PLC checkouts
- Provide technical support to shop and field start-up services assuming an average of 20-30% travel.
- Experience with commissioning/troubleshooting electrical control systems, including programmable logic controls, variable frequency drives, and associated equipment.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, control, and instrumentation faults in water treatment plants.
- Support planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedules to reduce downtime.
- Provide technical support during breakdowns and emergencies.
Project Management & Compliance:
- Support capital projects from conception to commissioning, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Liaise with Project Manager and clients, contractors and consultants directly to help resolve electrical and controls related design questions and provide clarification when necessary
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and company
- Participate in innovation, product development and improvement initiatives, and cost reduction projects.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Automation, or a related field. Relevant experience in water treatment, service, maintenance or industrial setting is acceptable.
- Proven experience in water treatment, utilities, or process industries.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.) and SCADA systems.
- Experience with motor control, VFDs, MCCs, and electrical distribution systems.
- Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Valid driver's license
- Valid Passport and ability to travel throughout US, Canada and internationally as required.
